Swedish furniture retailer IKEA will open a ‘city centre store’ in Bengaluru next month, expanding its presence in South Bengaluru almost four-and-a-half years after launching its large-format store became operational in the city.

The new store will have a retail area of 80,000 square feet, offering more than 5,200 products, as the company seeks to make its products more accessible to customers in the city.

"Bengaluru holds a special place in our India journey. Over the last five years, we have been welcomed into thousands of homes and have had the opportunity to learn from customers about how they live, what they value, and how their needs are evolving," IKEA India CEO Patrik Antoni said.

Opening another store in Bengaluru is a milestone for the company and reflects its commitment to improving accessibility and convenience for customers, he added.

The Swedish retailer entered Bengaluru through ecommerce in 2021, following which it opened its first store in Bengaluru’s Nagasandra in June 2022. The outlet scaled 4.6-lakh-square-feet and was the firm’s first physical store in Karnataka.

The upcoming city-store offers a smaller, more accessible urban outlet, compared to the company’s large-format store, which provides a broader and full-scale shopping experience.

The furniture retailer operates three large format stores in the country, situated in Hyderabad, Navi Mumbai and Bengaluru.

The company also operates two distribution centres in India - in Pune and Gurgaon.
