IKEA looking at alternative fabrics in India: Sandeep Saran

Ahmedabad: Swedish retailer IKEA is actively looking at sourcing alternative fabrics from India in near future, Sandeep Saran, new business manager, purchasing and logistics area South Asia said.

“We are looking forward towards a 100 year plan (in India),” he said at the Vibrant Gujarat 2019 summit in Gandhinagar on Sunday. While we have been sourcing substantial cotton fabric worth Rs 2000 cr, we are keen to look at alternative fibres, he said. “We are conducting pilots on fabrics from PET bottles that have been successful. Then there are fibres from bamboo, banana and jute. We seek to scale up sourcing of alternative fabrics,” he said.
