Delhi government's purchases from GeM portal jump 156% to Rs 1,595 cr in April-July

New Delhi: The Delhi government's purchases from the GeM portal jumped 156 per cent to Rs 1,595 crore in April-July of FY27 from Rs 624 crore in the year-ago period, giving a boost to MSMEs, the Chief Minister's Office said on Tuesday.

MSMEs are not just businesses but the strong foundation of jobs, innovation and the local economy, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, adding that the Delhi government is providing them a strong platform through enhanced purchases.

According to official data, procurement worth Rs 1,595 crore was recorded up to July in the current fiscal year, 156 per cent higher than Rs 624 crore recorded during the corresponding period of the last year.

The increase reflects the growing market and opportunities available to Delhi's small businesses.

In 2025-26, the total government procurement through Government e-Marketplace (GeM) in Delhi stood at Rs 4,311 crore, an increase of 41 per cent over 2024-25.

The share of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) accounted for around Rs 2,177 crore, the statement said.

With the effective use of GeM, the procurement process has now become digital, simpler and more transparent. This is giving small businesses and entrepreneurs access to a common and wider digital marketplace for government procurement, it added.

The participation of small businesses in government procurement has also grown steadily over the past few years. Procurement from MSEs stood at around Rs 965 crore in 2021-22 and rose to Rs 2,177 crore in 2025-26. Nearly 95 per cent of orders received by Delhi-based sellers in 2025-26 came from the central government and other states.

This is giving Delhi's MSMEs an opportunity to move beyond the local market and take their products and services to customers across the country, it said.

The participation of women and SC/ST entrepreneurs and startups is also increasing, as the Delhi government is making the procurement process more inclusive, said the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).

In 2025-26, procurement worth Rs 315 crore was made through GeM from women entrepreneurs, Rs 41 crore from SC/ST entrepreneurs and Rs 405 crore from startups.

The government's effort is to ensure that the benefits of government procurement are not limited to large businesses but that small businesses, women entrepreneurs, new startups and entrepreneurs from different sections also get equal opportunities, it said.

In recognition of the growing use of GeM in government procurement and the increasing participation in the services segment, Delhi has been kept under the 'Sustained Services Procurement Adoption' category, the statement said.

The recognition acknowledges the growing share of services procured through GeM and the sustained efforts of Delhi's government buyers to realise the benefits of the platform, it said.
