'Corporates ruining business of retail pharmacy sector'

VIJAYAWADA: The Krishna District Chemists and Druggists Association General Secretary P S Patnaik alleged that the corporate sector companies are spoiling the business of retail pharmacy sector in the state by forming an unholy syndicate.

Speaking to prespersons here yesterday Patnaik said that the corporate sector crept into the retail sector and had been offering many concessions and discounts to attract business by not adhering to business norms.

In Krishna disttrict alone, 2,500 pharmacists were in financial problems due to the "bad practice" encouraged by the corporate sector companies, he alleged

The companies, he said, have adopted innovative methods like displaying banners and distributing pamphlets to public about their various schemes like discount, more concessions to retired people, offering membership cards to members, and sending their staff to doorsteps of customers to attract business.

Patnaik lamented that traditional retail pharmacists were badly hit by misdeeds of the copanies who acted in gross violation of the MRTPC Act.

He said that they were playing havoc with the public health system necessitating immediate intervention of the authorities concerned to check the dangerous trend. V Venkata Rao, Association president was also present.
