NEW DELHI: New South Wales (NSW) Premier has invited Indian firms to set up shop in the Australian state, with its capital Sydney emerging as a popular destination for business and tourism.

"Building a relationship with India is a top priority. India is Australia's fastest growing export market with NSW providing exports as diverse as coal, medical devices and education." NSW Premier Morris Iemma said at a Ficci function here.

Iemma, who is leading a business and education mission to India, said NSW capital Sydney offers tremendous trade opportunities for Indian firms.

Speaking on the occasion, Vikram Kapur, Chairman of the India-Australia Joint Business Council, said trade between the two countries has the potential to double in the next three years to 10 billion dollars from 5.7 billion dollars in 2005-06.

He said the two countries can cooperate in areas such as infrastructure, tourism, IT, biotechnology, pharma, financial services, power and education.
