Guwahati: Amazon India revealed that demand for premium and AI-powered consumer electronics is rising across Assam ahead of the Amazon Great Indian Festival (AGIF) 2026, which begins on October 8.

Customers across the state are upgrading smartphones, laptops, TVs and appliances as they plan their festive purchases, supported by affordability options that are helping more of them move up to premium products.

“What stands out in Assam is how considered buyers are. They are excited about AI and they still look closely at performance and value before they decide. In Guwahati, these preferences now match what we see in India's largest metros. Our AI shopping tools, including Rufus, Lens AI and AI Review Highlights, help people compare options and choose the right product with confidence," Zeba Khan, Director, Consumer Electronics, Amazon India, said.

The company stated that the smartphone shift is most visible in Assam's price segments. Phones priced above Rs 30,000 account for more than 45% of category value, followed by the Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 segment at around 25%, so demand remains strong across price points even as customers move up. Listings with AI features are also gaining traction as buyers increasingly expect AI in their phones.

In home entertainment, customers are moving to bigger screens. The number of TV shoppers is up 8% year on year, and projector purchases have grown by 39%. Consumer electronics demand is also growing well beyond Guwahati, led by Sibsagar at 60%, Lakhimpur at 58% and Barpeta at 50%.

The company stated that consumer electronics demand is also rising in other Northeast cities, including Shillong, Imphal, Agartala and Aizawl. Around 25% of purchases are linked to education and productivity, with customers also buying for entertainment, fitness and everyday use.
