Govt sanctions Rs 4,618 cr for NE road projects
The Government has approved a sum of Rs 4,618 crore for the first phase of the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme (SARDP-NE) in the north-eastern region covering 1,310 kms, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways T R Baalu said.
NEW DELHI: The Government has approved a sum of Rs 4,618 crore for the first phase of the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme (SARDP-NE) in the north-eastern region covering 1,310 kms, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways T R Baalu said.
The Border Roads Organisation and the Assam Public Works Department will start working on this phase in the current year, an official release quoted Baalu.
Adressing a meeting of the members of the parliamentary consultative committee to the ministry, Baalu said the work under the SARDP-NE covering 7,616 km of roads in various categories has already started.
He said, detailed project reports are being prepared on the second phase of the programme covering 6,306 kms of roads.
National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has already started work on the four-laning of 679 km North-East Corridor under NHDP Phase-II, he said adding, contracts for 629-km have been awarded at a project cost of Rs 5,218 crore.
