WelcomHeritage to add 5 more properties soon
WelcomHeritage, a JV between ITC & Maharaja of Jodhpur’s Marudhar Hotels, to add five more properties in the next few months.
WelcomHeritage Hotels president Rakesh Mathur said: “We have aggressive plans to expand our properties. I am looking at licensing about 100 properties in the long term.” While the company owns some of its properties, most others are licensee and pay a fee to WelcomHeritage on a revenue-share basis.
“There are several new tourist circuits that need to be tapped in the country. Some of the circuits that need to be developed include Jharkhand, Orissa and Chattisgarh,” Mr Mathur said. The hotel chain expects to add about five properties within in the next few months, which are mostly part of a bigger tourist circuit.
Most of these properties are traditional havelis or old forts. Heritage tourism is the biggest tourist segment in the country and is estimated to be worth Rs 1,000-crore. “India is all about heritage tourism. Most international leisure tourists spends an estimated 17-20 days and spend a large part of it in visiting heritage sites and monuments,” Mr Mathur said. He added that India should have a central tourism policy which should be adopted by all the states to promote themselves as tourist destinations.
