Tata Group's Taj Vivanta plans hotel in Ecuador

We are having negotiations with Taj Vivanta who have shown interest in setting up ecological hotel on Galapagos Island," said Ecuadorian Consul General

MUMBAI: Tata Group-controlled Vivanta by Taj is planning to set up a hotel in the Latin American nation of Ecuador.

"We see big investment opportunity in hotel industry in Ecuador. We are having negotiations with Vivanta by Taj, who have shown interest in setting up ecological hotel on the Galapagos Island," Ecuadorian Consul General in Mumbai Héctor Cueva Jácome told reporters here today.

The negotiations are at a preliminary stage, Jacome said and declined to give more details.

Taj Group, which owns the Vivanta brand, could not be immediately contacted for comments.

Asked whether any other India-based hospitality company has shown interest in setting up properties in his country, Jacome said, "Not at the moment. I think a lot of other hospitality companies could be interested in developing properties on the Galapagos Island as it is a hotspot destination among travellers."

Jacome said a leading Indian pharma company is also setting up a plant in the northern part of the country on the Pacific Ocean. However, he did not name the company.
