SRPL's Sigree to make its China debut
In 2007, Anjan Chatterjee’s Speciality Restaurants (SRPL), which owns popular eateries like Oh Calcutta and Mainland China, is planning to take on the Chinese on their turf.
Sigree offer specialities of undivided India. The name refers to the traditional Indian coal stove that is still used for cooking in many parts of India. Apparently, the idea of serving ‘pre-partition cuisine’ hit Mr Chatterjee when he met chef Gafur Miya on a trip to Lahore.
Next year will also see the Chinese trying to get a taste of what India-owned Chinese food is like when Mainland China opens shop at Dalian also. Mr Chatterjee also plans to open restaurants in London and Geneva.
SRPL also plans to introduce ready-to-cook Chinese food and ready-to-eat Chinese sauces in the country and abroad. Mr Chatterjee told ET: “It will be authentic Chinese culinary, which people will enjoy at home. Our products will be available at all leading retail stores.”
