Shangri-La to check into Bangalore
The influx of global hotel chains in Bangalore is gaining momentum. After the entry of Ritz Carlton, JW Mariott and Starwood Hotels, now it is the turn of Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.
Traders hotel will open in late 2008 with 316 rooms, near the International Tech Park situated at Whitefield. Apart from the four-star business hotel, the Asia-based luxury hotel group will operate two five-star hotels. The group has entered into a management contract deal with Bangalore-based Adarsh Developers. Adarsh Developers plans to invest close to Rs 1, 100 crore on the three properties.
Shangri-La will have an inventory of around 700 rooms in the city, including 300 units of service apartments, which will be a part of one of the five-star hotels. “We are in talks with Shangri-La for managing our hotels in other cities as well. We are looking at opening hotels in Goa, Hyderabad and Chennai. We have already acquired land in Goa,” said B M Jayeshankar, CMD of Adarsh Group.
Currently, Shangri-La operates one hotel in Delhi. With three hotels in Bangalore, the group will have an inventory of around 1,000 rooms in India. The three hotels are expected to become operational in two years. With the entry of these global hotel chains, the mismatch in the demand-supply gap in the city is expected to even out.
