Sarovar eyes top slot for Hometel

Sarovar Hotels, which has a presence in the premium, mid-market and economy segments of the hotel sector, has mapped out major plans for its Hometel brand, the value-for-money, limited service brand that has already been launched.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sarovar Hotels, which has a presence in the premium, mid-market and economy segments of the hotel sector, has mapped out major plans for its Hometel brand, the value-for-money, limited service brand that has already been launched.

Sarovar Hotels executive director Ajay K Bakaya said the company planned to have Hometel as the number one brand in the country in its segment in the near future.

The Sarovar group presently manages a total of 35 properties with the number expected to reach 40 within a year. Mr Bakaya said the premium, mid-market and economy segments were all witnessing robust growth and that the mid-segment appeared to be the most underdeveloped in terms of room availability.

But the group is giving a special emphasis on developing its limited service Hometel brand, in which it is aiming for the top slot in the Indian market. “In pure numbers, Hometel will overtake all other hotel brands in its segment”, Mr Bakaya said. Besides Bangalore, Hometel’s network will feature hotels in Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Mumbai, Pune and Baddi.

The hotel industry views this development with interest, considering that the Taj group has launched the Ginger brand which is considered to be in the same segment with regard to the tariff and facilities. The Hometel tariff, at about Rs 1,500, however, is higher than the Ginger tariff of roughly Rs 1,000.
