Murgan Idli to test coffee shop concept
Tamil Nadu's popular idly chain Murugan Idli Shop is going to try out a unique coffee shop concept in which idlis are sold, a top official said.
“We are trying out the modern day coffee shop concept where we will replace the sandwiches and pizzas with the availability of limited dosas and idlis,” said S Manoharan, managing director of Murgan Idili.
The chain would test this concept with two such shops in Chennai by end of this year. This would also be a move into the upmarket segment.
Originally a Madurai-based outlet, Murugal Idli started its first outlet in Chennai in 2003. Today, it has 10 outlets in Chennai and sees the potential in the city for 20 more. It even has two outlets in Singapore. Its turnover is Rs 25 crore.
