Hotel Leela gets stay against NDMC move

The hotel chain yesterday filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging NDMC’s assessment of property tax.

NEW DELHI: Hotel Leela Palace secured a reaffirmation of an earlier stay order issued on June 7, 2010, from the Delhi High Court yesterday, which prevents New Delhi Municipal Council from attaching the luxury hotel's bank account for not clearing property tax dues till further orders. The matter of the actual amount of property tax payable is currently sub judice.

The municipal council had earlier this week claimed tax dues of Rs 18 crore from Leela Palace. The hotel chain yesterday filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging NDMC’s assessment of property tax.

The high court stayed the recovery proceedings and adjourned the matter to March 12, Hotel Leela Venture informed the Bombay Stock Exchange in a filing yesterday.
