FSSAI flags food safety lapses at Andaz Delhi, JW Marriott

New Delhi: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to Andaz Delhi and JW Marriott, Aerocity, after inspections flagged several food safety, hygiene and licensing-related deficiencies at the two hotels.

At Andaz Delhi, operated by Juniper Hotels, FSSAI officials observed issues including improper segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, pest activity, poor sanitation, inadequate food-handler hygiene and improper storage practices. The inspection also found around 87 kg of expired sweets, besides an expired cake base and packets of expired bread. The expired sweets were discarded on the spot, according to the notice.

FSSAI also flagged shortcomings related to temperature monitoring, allergen segregation, waste management, maintenance and supplier verification. Samples of products including cow ghee, mayonnaise, coconut milk powder, honey, masoor dal, tomato sauce and marmalade were collected for analysis. The food business operator has been directed to take corrective action and submit a compliance report.

Separately, FSSAI issued a notice to JW Marriott, Aerocity, operated by Aria Hotels and Consultancy Services Pvt Ltd. The regulator said the hotel was carrying out certain retail and relabelling activities without the requisite endorsement on its FSSAI licence. It also observed labelling deficiencies in pre-packaged food products, including misprinted licence numbers and incomplete manufacturer address details.

FSSAI further said certain food products and materials, including paneer, khoya, chana masala and chilli, were found without the requisite licence or appropriate endorsement being available for verification. The regulator said further action would be taken based on compliance with the notices and, where applicable, the results of sample analysis.
