Business centre worth Rs 2500 crore to come up at Amritsar

With an aim to restore the holy city as an international trade centre, the Punjab government has planned a "state-of-art" business hub worth Rs 2500 crore, which is expected to generate crores of revenue for the state exchequer.

AMRITSAR: With an aim to restore the holy city as an international trade centre, the Punjab government has planned a "state-of-art" business hub worth Rs 2500 crore, which is expected to generate crores of revenue for the state exchequer.

Deputy Chief Minisiter of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal today laid the foundation stone of the business centre, which has been planned by Singapore based Jurong Consultant Private Limited.

Badal said that the state government was determined to restore the old glory of Amritsar as an international trade city besides, putting it on international religious tourism circuit.

The upcoming centre would have a five star hotel, wedding place, luxury shopping mall, multiplex, business hotel with convention facilities, cinema houses and entertainment unit, he said.

Spread over 35,69,996 sq ft, the centre would be completed within four years and expected to generate a revenue to the tune of Rs 1300 crore for the state exchequer, Badal said.

Talking to mediapersons here he said SAD-BJP combine had strongly raised the issue of extending the railway freight corridor to Amritsar in the Parliament and assured that this issue would be given top priority once NDA assumes power at centre after Lok Sabha elections.
