Amritsar hotels not up to global standards: NRI hotelier

Sant Chatwal, the Chairman and CEO of New York-based Hampshire Hotels and Resorts, says not even a single hotel in Amritsar district in Punjab is up to the international standards.

CHANDIGARH: It came straight from horse's mouth. Sant Chatwal, the Chairman and CEO of New York-based Hampshire Hotels and Resorts, has made the dampening statement that not even a single hotel in Amritsar district in Punjab is up to the international standards.

NRI Chatwal, who was in Amritsar recently, had a bad experience of staying in a hotel there.

"I along with my friends went to Amritsar for paying our obeisance at Golden Temple and stayed in a local hotel. But to our utter surprise we did not find services of any hotel equal to the global specifications which is a quite shameful to say," he said.

However, he said there is a lot of potential in the state as far as hospitality sector was concerned. "I have observed that there is a lot of demand for hotels, especially in Amritsar for religious reasons and in Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Mohali because of witnessing growth in industry sectors."

The Punjab government is also seems to be serious in improving the infrastructure in the state which is good for the state, he said.
