Around 40,000 hotel rooms would be required to be put in place in the capital to meet the requirement of the Commonwealth Games, 2010.

NEW DELHI: Around 40,000 hotel rooms would be required to be put in place in the capital to meet the requirement of the Commonwealth Games, 2010, the Government said on Tuesday.

Giving this information in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today, Union Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni said her ministry was in touch with the various land owning agencies to identify additional hotel sites.

She said the agencies like DDA and the Ministries of Railways, Urban Development and Civil Aviation, and the state government of Uttar Pradesh have been advised to follow investor-friendly land policies and single window clearance for promoting hotel projects.
