You can take IIT entrance exam in San Fransisco from next year
Foreign students require to clear just the JEE Advanced exam to get admission in IITs.
The institute has decided to conduct the exam in the US considering a sizable Indian diaspora live in the Silicon Valley area of the San Fransisco.
"JEE exam is now conducted in five countries worldwide and we have added US to this list. US has benefitted significantly by the presence of a large number of IIT alumni there and there is considerable awareness in the US about IITs, said V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi.
For admissions in the IITs, Indian students have to clear two exams -- screening JEE (Mains) exam and JEE (advanced), but foreign students have to take just the Advanced exam to directly get admission in the IITs.
IIT already conducts exams at several foreign locations like Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Dubai (UAE), Kathmandu (Nepal) and Singapore, but this would be the first time when it conduct the entrance exam in the US.
On May 17, the first paper of JEE (Advanced) will start at 9.00 a.m. and end at 12 noon (IST). The second paper will be conducted from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. (IST).
