Wadhwani Foundation signed a MoU with Virginia Foundation
The Wadhwani Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education, US (VFCCE) in the Capital on Tuesday, to upgrade skills training in the country.
The partnership will help the Wadhwani Foundation access the expertise of Virginia Community College system in running industry-relevant professional education, through sharing of technical and organisational know-how, curriculum and teacher training. The MoU was signed in the presence of HRD minister Kapil Sibal and US Senator Mark Warner, who is also the co-chair of the Senate India Caucus.
As part of the memorandum, the VFCCE and the Wadhwani Foundation will together identify high-impact skill development programs in India that need such support.
The Wadhwani Foundation plans to impart vocational skills training to about three million students across the country in the next 5-10 years. While the Virginia Community College experts will serve as consultants, sharing best practices, the Wadhwani Foundation will provide local support and co-funding for this capacity building.
“India’s continued march towards global economic leadership would need to leverage its demographic dividend. The world-class vocational education program with a vision towards national scale as envisioned in this partnership is a small but important step towards that goal,” said Ajay Kela, president and CEO, Wadhwani Foundation.
