VGSOM ends placements

KOLKATA: The Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSOM) at IIT Kharagpur has ended its placements on an upbeat note. Notwithstanding an increase in batch size from 85 to 120 students, the average salary for the batch of 2005-07 has jumped over 20% to hit Rs 8.78 lakh per annum. The highest annual salary, offered to three students, has gone up from Rs 9.55 lakh last year to Rs 13 lakh this time around.

Some 60 companies participated in the final placements process this year and the entire batch was placed on Day One itself. First-timers on campus included big names like Cognizant Technology Solutions, Patni Computer Systems, International Tractors Ltd, Cholamandalam DBS, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Vedanta Group and Telelogic. They joined the ranks of regular recruiters like IBM, ITC, Citibank, Wipro, Voltas, HCL Technologies, HSBC Analytics, Infosys, Maruti, Tata Motors, and Ashok Leyland.

The institute also saw a slew of recruiters from new/emerging sectors such as Jones Lang LaSalle (real-estate consultancy), Ernst & Young (real estate consulting division), SBI Bank and SBI Caps (treasury & investment banking), RPG Retail (retail merchandising) and a couple of roles in the KPO industry.

A variety of profiles were offered across domains by several organistions, such as equity research (Irevna) and global leadership program (Tech Mahindra). PwC offered profiles in its prestigious GRID (government reforms and infrastructure development), while placements in sales, marketing/merchandising and branding were offered by Aricent, ITC (International Tobacco Division), Hutch and RPG Retail.
