UPSC: ABVP opposes new civil services exam pattern, to stage protest

DHARAMSALA: The ABVP has opposed changes in the mains examination pattern of civil services, claiming the inclusion of compulsory English paper will virtually block the entry of Hindi medium students to the elite services.

Demanding roll back of the decision, its state general secretary Umesh Dutt said that in protest against the decision, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad will stage demonstration outside the UPSC office in Delhi on March 11.

As per the changes effective from this year, a 100 marks paper of English comprehension and precis will replace English and Indian language papers which were qualifying in nature and their marks were not included while forming merit list.

Dutt noted that majority of civil services aspirants are youths residing in Hindi belts of the country, who study in government schools and colleges where English is not much emphasised upon.

"Countries like China and Japan are carrying out their work in their own language and are still making development," he said here.

Dutt also sought passing of a comprehensive bill on higher education in the current session of the Parliament.
