UGC NET cancelled as 'integrity compromised'; CBI to probe

The education ministry cancelled the UGC NET exam nationwide due to possible compromise. The Central Bureau of Investigation will investigate the case.

The education ministry has cancelled the UGC NET exam held nationwide on Tuesday, saying it may have been "compromised." The Central Bureau of Investigation has been asked to probe the case.

In a late Wednesday night statement, the Union education ministry said that UGC received inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the home ministry's Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) earlier in the day which "prima facie indicate that the integrity of the aforesaid examination may have been compromised."

To ensure "the highest level of transparency and sanctity of the examination process", the ministry decided to cancel the exam and hold a fresh one soon. The move comes even as the government is battling allegations related to NEET 2024 exam.

The ministry said that it has sought a detailed report from Bihar's Economic Offences Unit on the NEET exam. "Government will take further action on receipt of this report. Government is committed to ensure the sanctity of examinations to protect the interest of students. It is reiterated that any individual/organisation found to be involved in this matter will face strictest action," the ministry statement said.
