Times Higher Education Rankings: Not a single Indian institute in top 250
33 Indian institutes have featured in the top 1000, compared to 31 last year. Country’s top-ranking institute – IISc Bangalore has also dropped to 251-300 band from 201-250 band last year.
Thirty Indian institutes have featured in the 1000 in the rankings, compared to 31 last year. The country’s top-ranking institute – the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has also dropped to the 251-300 band from the 201-250 band it had climbed up to last year.
The country has 17 institutes in the top 800, two less than last year.
Besides IISc, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay also figures in the top 400. IIT Bombay remains in the same 351-400 band as last year.
Four institutes feature in the 501-600 band including IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee.
Aligarh Muslim University, Banaras Hindu University, University of Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Madras, Indian School of Mines, Jadavpur University, NIT Rourkela, Panjab University, Savitribai Phule Pune University and Tezpur University have been ranked in the 601-800 band.
This year’s list of the best universities in the world is led by two UK universities for the first time. The University of Oxford has held on to the number one spot for the second year in a row, while the University of Cambridge has jumped from fourth to second place.
The top five ranks include three US universities: California Institute of Technology and Stanford University in joint third place followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology in fifth spot.
