Stop counselling for MBBS/BDS: HC to TN

Madras HC directs Tamil Nadu government to stop counselling for MBBS/BDS courses till Tuesday.

CHENNAI: In an order which would effectively nullify counselling done today, the Madras High Court on Monday directed the Tamil Nadu government to stop counselling for MBBS/BDS courses till Tuesday.

The directive followed the submission of the Special Government Pleader, M Sekar, who assured the court that counselling would not be held till tomorrow.

However, the first day of counselling was completed today and the fate of the students who attended it remained unclear.

The High Court directive has thrown MBBS/BDS admissions into disarray.

A Division bench, comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice P Jyothimani, passed the order after hearing Public Interest Litigations from a student and a parent, who challenged the government's decision to delete a clause in the prospectus, which had prevented students who had got admission in other professional courses from applying for MBBS/BDS courses.
