St Xavier to inaugurate its new campus in Rajarhat tomorrow

A star attraction and guest of honour at the inauguration will be alumnus and former student of the-then St Xavier's College, Lakshmi Niwas Mittal.

KOLKATA: St Xavier's University is scheduled to inaugurate its first academic session (2017-18) at its new campus at New Town in Rajarhat on Friday. State chief minister Mamata Banerjee and Partha Chatterjee, minister of higher education are due to attend the meet as chief guest and special guest along with Rev. Fr. Jeyaraj Veluswamy, S.J, Chancellor, St. Xavier’s University Kolkata.

A star attraction and guest of honour at the inauguration will be alumnus and former student of the-then St Xavier's College, Lakshmi Niwas Mittal. Mr Mittal, who graduated in the Commerce stream, is one of the richest Indians and chairman & CEO of the world's largest steel company, ArcelorMittal. He was re-elected on the board of the company for another three years in May 2017. ArcelorMittal had annual revenues of $56.8 billion and a crude steel output of 90.8 million tonne in 2016. The function on Friday will also mark the opening of The Lakshmi & Usha Mittal Foundation Building (Academic Block) at the campus.
