Rs 8,000 worth of good news for each of UP govt's Shiksha Mitras, instructors

The Uttar Pradesh government on April 7 cleared a proposal to raise the monthly honorarium of Shiksha Mitras and part-time instructors engaged in government primary schools, according to officials.

The decision was approved at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, news agency PTI reported.

Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh said that the honorarium for Shiksha Mitras has been increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 18,000 per month.


Similarly, the payment for Anudeshaks has been raised from Rs 9,000 to Rs 17,000 per month.

The revised honorarium will come into effect from April 1, with the enhanced payments to be disbursed starting May 1.

Singh noted that the last revision for Shiksha Mitras took place in 2017, when their honorarium was raised from Rs 3,500 to Rs 10,000, and it has now been further increased to Rs 18,000.

The state currently has 1,42,929 Shiksha Mitras, of whom 1,29,332 fall under a 60:40 funding arrangement with the Centre.

The increase is expected to place an additional financial burden of Rs 1,138.12 crore on the state exchequer.

In addition, 24,717 part-time instructors are working across 13,769 upper primary schools in the state.

The hike in their honorarium from Rs 9,000 to Rs 17,000 per month will result in an additional financial outgo of Rs 217.5 crore, which will be borne by the state government, PTI's report said.
