Puducherry to introduce CBSE curriculum in 2014-15

The Chief Minister, who made the announcement after releasing the SSLC results, said the CBSE pattern would be implemented in a phased manner.

PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry government would adopt the CBSE curriculum in government and private schools in the 2014-15 academic year, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said here today.

The Union Territory presently follows the pattern of Boards of Secondary Education of neighbouring states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh for Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam regions.

The Chief Minister, who made the announcement after releasing the SSLC results, said the CBSE pattern would be implemented in a phased manner. "To start with, 167 schools would shift to this pattern from Class I onwards," he said.

He said the overall pass percentage in the SSLC exams this year was 91.64, but it was 2.79 per cent less than the percentile last year.

Rangasamy said government aid of Rs 67 crore for students admitted to professional colleges under government quota through Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) between 2012 and 2014 would be distributed soon.
