KOLKATA: Pantaloon Retail has teamed up with IISWBM to offer a two-year post-graduate program in retail management in eastern India. PRIL already has such tie-ups with KJ Somaiya Institute of Management Studies & Research and Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research. It will shortly offer a similar course in association with the Asian School of Management, Bhubaneswar.
Speaking to reporters, Mr Manish Agarwal, operations chief (east) at PRIL, said the course aimed to groom managers for India’s fast-growing retail scene_. He added that Pantaloons would be open to absorbing all students (50 external candidates and a maximum of 10 internal Pantaloon-nominated employees) passing out of the course.
The IISWBM course includes a strong focus on retail, with 15 months classroom training and nine months on-the-job training at any of the PRIL locations, during which students will be paid a stipend. The course fee is Rs 2.5 lakh and certification will be awarded by IISWBM and PRIL.
Mr Agarwal said PRILs plans for the East include setting up 8-10 stores this year in Kolkata and the rest of Bengal, including Asansol, Burdwan and Haldia. Of the new stores coming up, about 60% would be in malls while the remaining would be stand-alone outlets. There will also be stores in Orissa in locations like Puri, Cuttack and Rourkela, said Mr Agarwal.
