President Pratibha Patil today inaugurated the new building of Agriculture College Pune, one of the oldest agricultural colleges in India.

PUNE: President Pratibha Patil today inaugurated the new building of Agriculture College Pune, one of the oldest agricultural colleges in India having celebrated its centenary in 2008.

Ms Patil said, ""There should be partnership between the farmers and the entrepreneurs. While entering into any contract with the farmer, there should be enough provision for protecting his ownership over his land. The agricultural universities should develop bio-technology for getting good production even in less rainfall.

Maharashtra governor K Shankarnarayanan said in his speech that the President has instituted a committee of governors for making agriculture a profitable venture.

The Agriculture College, Pune comes under the jurisdiction of Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidhyapeeth Rahuri. The new building has been constructed with Rs 16 crore and is exact replica of the old building. The old building has been declared as monument of historical importance and the college will set up a museum in it.
