'Online scholarship to SC/ST students after self-verification'

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan government today announced in the Assembly that educational scholarships to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) students would be provided online after self-verification to reduce pendency of scholarships.
In reply to a question from BJP MLA Devendra Katara, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr Arun Chaturvedi said over 5 lakh scholarship cases were pending since 2009 and out of which only 8 to 9 per cent cases are now pending as the scholarships were provided expeditiously.
Online service would be provided to beneficiary students after they file self-verification of their documents to expedite the cases and avoid pendency, Chaturvedi said.
The state government had written to the Cente seeking release of pending scholarship funds for SC/ST students so that they can be paid their dues in a specific time frame, the minister said.
