NSDC signs MoUs with North East universities for skill-based training

NEW DELHI: National Skill Development Corporation ( NSDC) has signed memorandums of understanding with major universities across North East for introducing skill-based training. The training will be introduced in the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of colleges/ institutes/ departments in these universities, in a phased manner.

These universities include Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University, University of Guwahati, Dibrugarh University and Tezpur University, in Assam; Sikkim Manipal University; Tripura University and Indra Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University in Arunachal Pradesh.

These courses will be introduced in the 2nd year of undergraduate programmes. Skill-based courses will cover 4 semesters in the 2nd and 3rd year of undergraduate programmes, according to a release issued by NSDC. The students will be given a choice to select any one skill-based course from the identified sectors in addition to the regular academic subjects.

Commenting on the partnerships, Dilip Chenoy, managing director & CEO, NSDC said, "The Government of India has a special focus on the overall development of North East states. It is our endeavour to scale up skill development activities in this region pursuant to the special focus."

Before the commencement of every academic year, these universities will review the existing skill development programmes in the colleges/ institutions with NSDC and consider introducing new sectors and courses as per the demand of the industry and the willingness of the participating institutions.

The fee of the courses will be mutually decided by each university and NSDC in consultation with NSDC Approved Training partners and NSDC Approved Sector Skill Councils.
