No state varsity to be converted into central university: HRD

Satya Pal Singh said the government has taken this reasons because of legacy issues, adjustment of existing staff and disaffiliation of affiliated colleges.

NEW DELHI:The HRD Ministry has decided not to convert any state university into a central university due to legacy issues, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

Minister of State for HRD Satya Pal Singh was responding to a written question in the Lok Sabha.

"The government has taken a policy decision to not convert state universities into central universities for reasons of legacy issues, adjustment of existing staff and disaffiliation of affiliated colleges," he said.


"However, the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014, provides for establishment of one central university in successor state of AP and one tribal university in AP and Telangana," Singh added.
