NLSIU, first law school with Int Financial Law Chair

City-based National Law School of India University (NLSIU) today became the first law school in the country with an International Financial Law Chair.

BANGALORE: City-based National Law School of India University (NLSIU) today became the first law school in the country with an International Financial Law Chair.
The Chair, being established by Allen & Overy, a leading UK-based international law firm, "is one of the major milestones in the history of legal education in general and NLSIU in particular", A Jayagovind, Vice-Chancellor of NLSIU told reporters here.
The Allen & Overy Chair is the first international chair to be funded by an overseas law firm to any of the law schools in India.
The Chair will not only further the existing linkages between the National Law School and Bar, but also go a long way in redeeming the law school's objective of producing "transnational lawyers who can cater to the needs of the ever changing world", Jayagovind said.
Baroness Ashton, Under-Secretary of State in the Department of Constitutional Affairs, United Kingdom, said the Chair would enhance relationship between the two countries.
Alex Pease, Partner, Allen & Overy, said the United Kingdom recognised the need to share global expertise in international financial law if investors' interests have to be protected.
The Chair, he said, would not only result in "cross border interaction in the field, but also help meet the increasing demand for advice as more and more FDI flows".
