NIT to ink MoU with TCS
The MoU initiatives would include provision for scholarships for M S (research) and PhD scholars.
Addressing the media here on Wednesday, Prof M Chidambaram, Director, NIT, said that the MoU initiatives would include provision for scholarships for M S (research) and PhD scholars, selected by the institute.
The MoU would also include M S programmes for TCS staff at NIT comprising of 18 weeks intensive course of NIT, followed by research activities at different TCS locations. Also on the cards would be the establishment of state-of-the-art laboratory for carrying out the projects and research works.
N Chandrasekaran, Executive Vice President and Head, Global Sales and Operations of the company said the details of the MoU would be worked out before August 15, 2007.
TCS had already signed similar pacts with 45 educational institutions across the country, out of which 10 were in Tamil Nadu, Chandrasekaran said.
Thomas Simon, Vice-president, HR, TCS said that in 2006-2007, 396 faculty development programmes were hosted to sensitize the trainers about the needs of the industry and out of which about 140 programmes were hosted in institutions located in tier-II cities.
Under the rural I T Education Programme, TCS was conducting computer-training camps in rural areas in co-ordination with engineering and arts and science colleges and donating computer systems to schools.
