IT lobby Nasscom will roll-out a benchmark test for IT competence in the North East states in September.
As per the MoU, Nasscomm would undertake Nasscom Assessment of Competence (NAC) test for 20,000 students in eight NE states between September to December 7. The chamber would issue certificate to qualified students and help the students in getting jobs in IT and ITeS segment.
"This programme will help young talents in the NE region to provide employment opportunity, which will further help in economic development of the region," Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNEAR) Mani Shankar Aiyar told reporters here.
North Eastern region over the years has emerged as an important source for suitable and industry-related talent, he added.
Nasscom is also planning to organise job fairs in cities of the region to provide employment opportunity to qualified students.
"Only certifying the students will not serve the purpose, so we are also talking to the companies for organising job fairs in the region," Nasscom President Kiran Karnik said.
Speaking on the benefits of this programme, Karnik said, it marks a significant milestone for Nasscom and would enable us to further the goal to identifying the talent from the Indian hinterland and providing them with job opportunity in BPO industry.
