MS presents first set of IP scholarships
In a bid to foster a strong Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) environment in India, global software giant Microsoft on Tuesday presented its first set of Intellectual Property scholarships to three law students of NALSAR university here.
HYDERABAD: In a bid to foster a strong Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) environment in India, global software giant Microsoft on Tuesday presented its first set of Intellectual Property scholarships to three law students of NALSAR university here.
The former judge of Supreme Court K Ramaswamy gave away the scholarship cheques amounting to Rs 80,000 each to S Maheshwari, R Nandini and Santhosh Krishnan at a special function organised in the university premises at Shamirpet on the city outskirts.
Delivering a special address on the occasion, Nancy Anderson, Deputy General Counsel and Vice President of Microsoft Corporation said her company would be spending $750 Million for research in IPR in India.
She said that 85 per cent of Mirosoft's intellectual base was from India, which she described as the "power house of talent."
Anderson expressed her commitment to strengthen and promote creativity and progress through financing the research and encouraging innovations to create a strong economy based on knowledge.
He saw a key role for national law schools and other educational institutions in India in taking forward the IP education, research and teaching programmes.
He outlined the origin and evolution of trade related IPR regime in the context of globalisation.
Prof Ranbir Singh, Vice Chancellor of NALSAR who welcomed the gathering, made a brief presentation on the current trends in IP research and new approaches needed to be adopted by the educational institutions.
