More seats for IIMs in 2008-10 batch
Some IIMs will go ahead with plans to increase their intake for the '08-10 session despite the quota regime not kicking in. B-school grads become fund managers
IIM Bangalore (IIM-B), for instance, will be raising its batch size from 250 to around 300 from next year. At IIM Indore (IIMI), the number of seats is slated to go up by 60 in 2008, a 33.33% increase over the present 180. Even IIM Shillong is slated to begin operations next year with some 60 seats.
IIMB director Prakash G Apte told ET: "We plan to increase our student intake from the present 250 to 280-300 next year. This is despite the quota not being implemented. We currently have the required infrastructure to accommodate increased student strength."

However, the institute will go ahead with its plans for infrastructure expansion. Another IIMC official said: "Our institute already has the highest number of students and it is in the process of creating infrastructure for a batch size of 450-500. This will take another year-and-a-half , and unless the quota is implemented, it is unlikely that the number of seats will increase next year."
An IIM-A spokesperson said there were no immediate plans to increase the number of seats, though the infrastructure expansion will continue. "The rooms that we are putting up can be used for other purposes as well, such as hosting people for MDPs (management development programmes)."
