BANGALORE: If your friend or relative happened to come to Bangalore recently, to take up the entrance test for private engineering or medical colleges in the state, they would have been put through the paces by an IT firm.

COMED-K or the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges-Karnataka is in fact a client of Meta-I Technologies, a firm which was incubated in the prestigious NS Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL) of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore.

Thanks to Meta-I, the process of procuring the application form from the distribution centre, standing in long-winding queues, is now part of history. The whole process centres on the ubiquitous personal computer.

The firm is co-founded by a technocrat, Tamilmani Kamatchi (Mani), and MVS Nameet, a post-graduate degree holder in human resources. Mr Mani is a veteran in Bangalore’s IT industry, having earlier co-founded ‘Boolean Expressions’, a firm which was into e-business and wireless application solutions.

Mr Mani says that Meta-I’s rich experience in academic testing has helped it in developing unmatched test administration processes, notably at the pre-employment testing and assessment stage, which is extremely critical in the corporate world.

“Our test administration process and seating arrangements have proved effective in curbing malpractices during the test. The unique block-wise seating arrangement ensures that candidates do not get the same version code beside or around them,” says Mr Mani.

Founded in the shadow of the September 11 bombings in the US in November ’01, Meta-I’s first product was ‘Easyadmissions.com’, a product providing online admission to schools. Currently, it has over 170-colleges lined up as its users.
