MCET ties up with Digiscape

COIMBATORE: Pollachi-based Dr Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology (MCET) on Friday entered into an MoU with the Chennai-headquartered Digiscape Gallery to offer one-year post graduate diploma programmes in E-publishing.
The three programmes, E-publishing (design), E-publishing (editing) and Digital Prepress, would commence from next month for which diploma holders, graduates and post graduates of science, humanities, engineering, life sciences and law were eligible, the college Vice-Chairman, M Manickam told reporters.
E-publishing is the latest wave of innovation sweeping the publishing world and India is fast emerging as the hub of the industry, with its educated and trained workforce, Elangovan, Managing Director of Digiscape, said.
There was acute shortage of trained manpower in this field with several global publishers including Oxford and Cambridge University, Prentice Hall, outsourcing their e-publishing projects to India, he said.
Saying that the job opportunities thus generated were available mostly for the students in the metros and big cities with Digiscape offering placement in 10 top companies, he said the tie up would enable the students in semi-urban areas.
Digiscape's structured training programme in E-publishing with specialisations in copy editing, type setting, graphics and technical editing covers all major aspects of e-publishing and goes into the fine details of this emerging area, Manickam said.
