The report also reiterates several well known linkages, such as between the education of mother and that of their children. The report found that in cases where the mothers have had no schooling, then there was a higher probability that their children were out of school.

The survey found that there was no discernable change in enrolment levels since the last survey. Some states like Rajasthan and Bihar have been found to have significantly high percentage of out of school children in the 11 to 14 age group.

The report found encouraging signs in learning outcomes in classes I and II, where a proportion of children who can at least read alphabets and numbers has increased significantly. However, there is no change observed in the percentage of children who can read in Classes III and IV although a 4% improvement in mathematics learning was recorded across the country.
