Acknowledging India's role in reconstruction of war-ravaged Afghanistan, President Hamid Karzai has invited Indian Universities to set up their campuses in his country.

JAMMU: Acknowledging India's role in reconstruction of war-ravaged Afghanistan, President Hamid Karzai has invited Indian Universities to set up their campuses in his country.

In an hour-long interaction with Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Professor Amitabh Mattoo yesterday in Kabul, Karzai said he deeply valued India's efforts towards reconstruction of Afghanistan.

Karzai, who himself studied in Himachal Pradesh university, said "universities play a great role in building a society and a nation" and sought more Indian investment in educational sector in his country, a release from Jammu university said on Thursday.

Professor Mattoo, also a member of Board of Directors of India-Afghanistan foundation is on a three-day official visit to Kabul.

Karzai asserted that the foundation would play a greater role in cementing ties between the people of the two countries, especially in the educational sector.

Later, Mattoo delivered lectures at the Centre for Regional Studies and University of Kabul.
