Jharkhand government has proposed to set up three medical colleges and upgraded two existing medical facilities in the state.

RANCHI : Jharkhand government has proposed to set up three medical colleges and upgraded two existing medical facilities in the state.

"Construction of three medical colleges on the basis of public-private partnership will be taken up in Dumka, Chaibasa and Palamau," Health Minister Bhanu Pratap Sahi told newsmen here.

The state has been initiating move to set up a medical college in Chaibasa which has a vast reserve of minerals, including iron ore.

The existing health facilities at Itki and Brambe in Ranchi district will be upgraded, the minister said. Plans are also afoot to make Brambe as a medical city, which would provide patients with all facilities.

A TB hospital will be set up at Itki while a hospital for leprosy patients will come up in Brambe.

Jharkhand, which has three government medical colleges in Ranchi, Dhanbad and Jamshedpur, needs more such institutions, the minister said.
