IT sector still favourite of engineering graduates

NEW DELHI: Information Technology (IT) continues to rule the engineering campus. The sector has once again turned out to be the favourite amongst engineering graduates, according to a Nielsen survey, ���Campus Track T-Schools study��� for the class of 2009.
Four out of the top five preferred companies, were from IT. The top three companies in engineering campuses were Tata Consultancy Services, Google, and Accenture. Apart from IT services, nanotechnology, management consultancy and financial sector were also spotted as the ���industries of the future���.
For students in the non-IT sector, automotive was the most preferred industry. ���Information Technology has been the most soughtafter industry for some time now,��� says Vatsala Pant, associate director, client solutions , Nielsen. ���Even engineers specialising in other disciplines such as chemical, mechanical and civil, want to start their career in IT because of the prospects the sector brings with it in terms of better pay and the opportunity to work abroad.���

With several multinational auto giants setting up shop in India and domestic players such as Tata Motors on the verge of creating history with Nano, this sector has also garnered interest among engineering student.
Students from toprung premier (IITs) institutes, considered energy sector and investment Banks to be the future industries . IT companies may get serious competition from unexpected quarters in the years ahead through the resurgence of the energy.
