ISB ties-up with NSE for trading laboratory

The NSE-ISB Trading Laboratory, with 34 trading terminals, aims to offer users a professional real time live trading experience.

HYDERABAD: Indian School of Business (ISB) teamed up with National Stock Exchange (NSE) for a trading laboratory with access to premium financial databases to equip management students with skills and knowledge to understand nuances of financial markets and challenges of fast changing economy.

The NSE-ISB Trading Laboratory, with 34 trading terminals, aims to offer users a professional real time live trading experience with access to databases such as Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters, Morningstar, S&P Capital IQ, CRSP and Wharton Research Data Services.

Inaugurating the laboratory, the NSE managing director and chief executive Chitra Ramakrishna said the exchange hopes the partnership will help leverage the strengths to create an investment lab. Such an investment lab “will help investors, intermediaries and students understand the importance of asset allocation, financial planning and risk management, through meaningful research, working papers and case studies on the markets,” she said.

ISB dean Ajit Rangnekar viewed that the current day academia and industry in India operated in two independent and almost mutually exclusive spheres in the area of finance and capital markets. He said such a scenario not only deprived students of opportunities to learn from real world applications but also deprived the industry from obtaining cutting-edge research emanating from academia. “The association between NSE and ISB is an ambitious attempt to fill this gap.”

For the trading laboratory, ISB proposes to draw together academic experts from accounting, psychology, asset management, value investing, behavioural finance, trading strategies and private equity.
