a first such institution in the country, the International School of Actuarial Sciences (ISAS) has been launched here on Monday to offer a two-year post-graduate diploma course in Actuarial Sciences.
Actuarial Science deals with compilation and analysis of statistics and uses them to calculate insurance risks and premiums.
The School, a new channel of actuarial education and learning, is founded by the Institute of Insurance and Risk Management (IIRM), a joint venture of Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) and Andhra Pradesh government.
The ISAS is first of its kind institution in the country offering a two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Actuarial Sciences to students who aspire to become actuarial professionals and actuaries, an IIRM release said here.
The course is open for fresh graduates and also to students who are already appearing for the actuarial professional examinations conducted by the Actuarial Society of India, Mumbai, and Institute of Actuaries, London.
The two year course offered by the ISAS has adopted the same curriculum of the Actuarial Society of India/Institute of Actuaries. It trains students in the same subjects of the professional bodies and prepares them through class room pedagogy, apart from intensive tutorial work/case studies, the release said.
Currently, students take these professional examinations by self-study and with limited guidance.
The School is supervised by the Board of IIRM and Managing Director Vepa Kamesam, former Deputy Governor of RBI.
