India should become education hub again: PM Modi

PM Modi inaugurates Nalanda University campus in Rajgir, Bihar, emphasizing India's potential to become a global education hub with advanced research facilities and inclusive values.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that just like the ancient Nalanda University was a great centre of learning and attracted students from different countries, India today should develop into a hub of education for the world and provide the most advanced research system and facilities to students.

Inaugurating the Nalanda University campus in Rajgir, Bihar, the PM said the place is a living centre of India's culture and traditions. "Education is beyond boundaries. It inculcates values and thought while giving it shape," he said, adding that students were admitted to the ancient Nalanda University irrespective of their identities and nationalities.

Nalanda University, in its present form, is conceived as a collaboration between India and East Asia Summit countries. The ancient university was burned down during the rule of Bakhtiar Khilji but continued to be functional for some years after that.
