India may finally sample French Wine MBA
Two Indian students will join the prestigious Wine MBA programme of France's Bordeaux Business Schoolclass next year.
“Lately, we’ve had several enquiries from India and are actually looking at potential candidates for the ‘07 Wine MBA programme,” Alyson Grant, programme co-ordinator of the Wine MBA, told ET. Lately, specialised business education in France has become a big draw with Indian students. “Apart from the Wine MBA, other specialist business courses include those in art, fashion, design, architecture and luxury retailing,” said Archana Chaudhary, co-ordinator, EduFrance India.
Targeted at leaders in the industry, Bordeaux B-school’s Wine MBA programme has been on since ’01 and is run out of Bordeaux, London and Adelaide — the world’s three big wine markets. It is an executive, part-time programme for working professionals with at least 5 years experience. The duration of the course is 10 weeks, spread over a 10-month period.
“Majority of our participants come from the wine industry but we do allocate a few places for those who have a firm project to enter the wine industry,” Ms Grant said. An interesting feature of the programme is that both traditional and newer wine markets are covered. In fact, faculty members and professionals who teach on the Wine MBA programme come from universities in the US, Chile and Australia.
“We have alumni from countries as far afield as Korea, Lebanon, Singapore, South Africa, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, Canada, USA as well as nearly all European countries. We market the programme mainly in wine industry magazines and at trade fairs such as Vinexpo and the London International Wine & Spirits Fair,” she added. Bordeaux Business School also has a student exchange programme at the MSc level with IIMC, IIMB and LIBA in Chennai.
