IIT Roorkee launches Design Innovation Centre with project outlay of Rs 10 crores

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has launched Design Innovation Centre (DIC) with a project outlay of Rs 10 crores.

Funded by the ministry of human resource development, the centre called Navonmesh will address issues of the Himalayan region using locally available resources as well as cater to national priorities.

“The technical/non-technical colleges/institutes and schools can involve themselves in mentoring and supporting innovation and design activities, to address general issues & issues specific to the Himalayan region. This will also help Indian farmers and develop innovative means & ways to enhance their growth & productivity,” Ajit K. Chaturvedi, Director-IIT Roorkee said.


Chaturvedi also pointed out the importance of humanisation of technologies using the platform of DIC, according to a release.

DIC of IIT Roorkee will operate as main institute that would coordinate work with three other institutes in the region- National Institute of Technology Uttarakhand, Indian Institute of Management, Kashipur and College of Technology, GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar.

The Design Innovation Centre, IIT Roorkee will be headed by Apurbba Kumar Sharma as the coordinator, according to the release.
