IIT results 2011: Kota regains lost glory in IIT-JEE stakes, 3 students from Kota coaching institutes in top ten

KOTA: Students from the IITJEE coaching hub regained their dominance in the examination this year, with three of them finding a place amongst the top ten.

Though the first position went to Hyderabad, the second , fifth and tenth positions were pocketed by students of Kota coaching centres. The institutes had witnessed a lull in performance last year.
According to figures got from these coaching institutes , around 5,000 students from the city were selected against a total of 9,500 IIT seats. It was a near-miss from the top spot for Kota-resident Shubham Mehta, who stood second, six marks short of the all-India first rank.

Shubham was preparing for the IIT-JEE exam at a small Kota’s coacing class.
Jaipur’s Nisheet Lahoti, who has bagged the all-India fifth position, had also prepared for the entrace exam at the same institute.

“It’s a landmark feat for the coaching industry. We have again proved our excellence in delivering coaching for the most sought-after entrance exam in the country,” said P K Bansal, from a leading coaching institute in Kota . However, it was a setback for this coaching house with no students making it to the top 10. However, Bansal said that a total of 2,122 candidates cracked the examination from his coaching centre this year.

Out of these, 12 students have figured among the top 100. In 2007 and 2008, for two consecutive years students from this institute secured the first position. This year, Ved Ratan Dikshit of Uttar Pradesh, who got the 16th rank, is the only student to land among the top 20.

Randhavane Tanmay Vitthal of Maharashtra, who is at the tenth position in the all-India ranking, spent two years in Kota. Narendra Awasthi of a leading coaching institute said, “The best in the market will survive. We spotted potential in Vitthal and accordingly trained him.” He added that there has been an upward shift in the scores this year.

This can probably be attributed to the rising coaching institutes in other centres . In within two years, they made total of 822 selections including four in top 100.
